Forest Guardian Slot Game Review
It seems the more modern we get the more we need to delve into the myths and legends of the past when they dealt with the mysteries of the world by making stuff up! That’s fine, and while you wouldn’t want to swap your well-equipped hospital for some dark-ages holy healing, a trip back in time for fun can be very rewarding, and Forest Guardian slot from Novomatic is a great adventure into green netherworlds.
The look and feel are pretty standard, but the symbols on the reels really stand out; a collection of magical avatars, including a beautiful pixie, a squirrel, potion bottles, magical toadstools, an owl, a frog, and an acorn. It looks great.
Magical Worlds
These symbols sit on a 5 x 3 grid, with the 25 pay-lines delineated with 25 labels at the side of the screen. The reels sit on the front of a backdrop of will o’ the wisp lights and fireflies in a very atmospheric overall look.
The betting is per line, with a maximum total stake of 50 coins from 2 coins a line, starting from 0.25 coins. With the symbols paying out some great multiples – the pixie plays between 100 and 2,000 coins at the top of the range, and the entry-level payout is from the acorn, paying between 10 and 200 coins for three to five matches.
Breaking the spell
So what extras does our magical forest pixie have under her hat – actually, a headdress of forest flowers?
The extras are pretty good. The first is a random reel wild. This is a flying pixie, who swoops daintily across the reels granting up to five wild symbols as she goes – these are expanding tree symbols that stand in for all symbols and deliver really big wins.
The second bonus feature is the free spins feature. That delivers up to five free spins and is a randomly triggered extra that is set off, again, by the floating part of the pixie.
Finally, wins offer up a good old-fashioned win gamble. The gamble feature comes up on all wins except jackpots or wins on free spins. It’s a timing game with red/black cards and a double or quits ladder for you to climb.
If you fancy casting your own spell, then click on Autoplay. You should find that pretty self-explanatory, as are the rest of the controls. The front panel isn’t the prettiest or most up to date, and can look a little cramped and hard to read on small screens. Be sure to check out the paytable when you play, so you know what you can expect. The mechanical controls – sound, full screen and so on – are up in the top right corner, and they’re really small.
Forest Guardian slot is a fun game, with a great look and feel that’s really worth checking out if you’re into myths, legends or fantasy fiction.
Novomatic has a great reputation for their slots and this doesn’t let them down at all. It’s available on all platforms but plays best, we think, on larger screens.
